Durran Dowdle Announces Candidacy for City of Katy Councilmember

KATY, TX – Durran Dowdle, longtime City of Katy resident and active community member, has announced his candidacy for City of Katy Councilmember in the May 2026 election.

“After much thought and consideration, along with the support of my family, friends and community members, I am proud to announce that I will be seeking to serve again on City Council,” Dowdle says. “It has been brought to light that there will be a deficiency of experience for the incoming City Council. As elder statesman, not a politician, I believe my ongoing leadership and seasoned experience will be an asset to the community and provide an anchor to the Council. With the ability to hit the ground running, I not only can offer fluid transition of leadership, but also mentorship to new members, while tackling current challenges, rapid changes and all upcoming actions with honesty, integrity and purpose.”

Dowdle has previously served as City of Katy Councilmember Ward B from 2014 to 2020. He was appointed as the Mayor Pro Tem from 2017 to 2019 by both Former Mayor Fabol Hughes and Former Mayor Chuck Brawner. Prior to his service on City Council, Dowdle was appointed by Former Mayor Don Elder to serve on the City of Katy Board of Adjustments in 2007 and then to the Convention and Tourism Bureau Board, where he served from 2007-2014. Currently, Dowdle serves as a board member on the Village of Katy, appointed by Mayor Dusty Thiele in 2025.

“During my previous tenure on City Council, I stewarded and supported desirable change and tangible improvements, such as flood mitigation, construction improvement plans, an ethics policy for City Council and many achievements across all City departments,” Dowdle states. “Since then, I have had regular meetings with the Mayor and City Administrator to discuss actionable items to improve city processes, future planning and long-range goals to meet challenges that lay ahead. I feel now, more than ever, my ability to make decisions that are driven by facts and data, coupled with community input, is crucial to the City Council. My primary goal is to be proactive, not reactive, while protecting our city and our small-town values.”

Dowdle and his wife of 41 years, Terri, have lived in the City of Katy since 1987. They have two daughters, Sheridan Stephenson (Katy High School Class of 2004), married to Zach (KHS Class of 2003), and Alyssa Glover (KHS Class of 2009), married to Garrett (KHS Class of 2009). They are blessed with six wonderful grandchildren – Beverly, Avery, Bennett, Beau, Reese and Jordan. Dowdle studied business at HCC and the University of Phoenix. After more than 30 years as a Project Manager at Brown & Root, Dowdle retired in 2020. He still maintains his State of Texas Journeyman Electrician license. Since retirement, Dowdle works part time as a corporate trainer for HCS and at Katy Hardware. He enjoys helping others and staying deeply rooted in the Katy community.

“My commitment to this city is not just political, it is personal,” concludes Dowdle. “I have consistently worked to protect and enhance the quality of life we all cherish in the City of Katy. I am ready to return to service with the experience and leadership necessary to guide our city forward.”

The 2026 Regular Officers’ Election for the City of Katy will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, if called.
